A white store manager in a Tacoma, WA mall scolded two young Black women as she tried to get them kicked out of a Fuego retail store. One of the women had confronted the store manager about reading theft policies aloud in front of her dressing room as she was trying on clothes.
One of the women involved, who goes by Simone Intrepid Gamble on Facebook, posted the incident to social media. Gamble explained the context of the video in her caption.
“So this just happened. I was in the dressing room and while in there the manger started talking about the procedures for theft. Mind you she was not on the floor when we first arrived to the store. I select dresses then tried them on. I was going to PURCHASE one of the dresses until I heard her speaking directly in front of my dressing room about theft procedures. I then got dressed and went to tell her I wanted to buy one of the dresses and confronted her about her implicit conversation right outside the curtain. She kicked us out of the store when I tried asking her why and she then said all of this…

An ‘Educated’ Word
In the video, the store manager is can be seen and heard calling security as she urges the young women to leave with dismissive hand gestures. At one point of the ladies says that the manager is claiming that they are being “aggressive.”
The manager corrects her and says “No, I said uncooperative. Uncooperative is the word I used. It’s an educated word that succinctly describes what’s happening here. I’ve asked you to leave and you have not left.”
The store manager called security, but still insisted that the two young women leave. They made it clear that they did not want to leave the store and end up being tackled by security. They wanted to wait for the authorities to arrive and explain what happened.
The manager walked away as the ladies talked about how she was prejudiced, to which the manager let out a hearty laugh. The women’s claim that they would contact corporate illicited even more laughs from the manager and an employee.
Security eventually arrived. Outside of the store, the women explained the situation to two uniformed security officers who nodded as they spoke. The video cuts off before the officers speak or there is any kind of resolution presented.
