Tina Knowles always knew her daughters were destined for greatness and laid the groundwork of their strong relationship by sending Beyonce and Solange to counseling at an early age.

During an interview with Maria Shriver, Knowles revealed her reasons for seeking professional help for her daughters.

“I was very sensitive to that because I grew up where I met like my mother liked my brother more and she loved him more…so I had days that I devoted,” she explained. “On Wednesdays I would take off of work and that was Solange’s day.”

Ms. Tina made sure to make Solange feel special because Beyonce was a star from the start.

“It was tough because she was five years old and Beyonce was this little superstar in our city,” she said. “I took them to counseling very early so that he counselor could help Beyonce be more sensitive to Solange because she couldn’t stand her for a minute.”

Even though fans know Beyonce and Solange to be the best of friends, they didn’t used to get along so well.

“When they were little, she [Solange] was all in her stuff. She was trying to hang around with her and her friends and Beyonce was really irritated,” she continued. “It made her more sensitive to who her sister was and what she had to deal with because of her.”

Knowles didn’t let her family’s skepticism stop her from getting her daughter the tools they needed to build a strong relationship.

“My family was like, ‘You’re gonna make them crazy! They’re too young for you to take them!’ I wanted Beyonce to be sensitive to the fact that Solange had to deal with being a little bit in her shadow and it made her way more sensitive and protective,” she said.

“They’re still fiercely protective of each other.”
