This social media campaign comes on the heels of the release of years old posts from Reid’s now defunct blog that reportedly contained incendiary, homophobic language. The posts were unearthed by critics using the Way Back Machine. While at first Reid said she was hacked and initiated an investigation, she eventually admitted that it was unlikely she was hacked and she apologized on her show.

Last week, another round of troubling blog posts about Sen. John McCain and 9/11 conspiracy theories resurfaced from the past and Reid again apologized.

For its part, MSNBC has stood firm with Reid even as right wing critics call for her show to be cancelled.

“Some of the things written by Joy on her old blog are obviously hateful and hurtful. They are not reflective of the colleague and friend we have known at MSNBC for the past seven years,” reads a statement from MSNBC. Joy has apologized publicly and privately and said she has grown and evolved in the many years since, and we know this to be true.”

Black Women to the Rescue

As a Grio alum, Joy Ann Reid will always have a special place in our hearts. Of course, #WeGotJoy and so do a lot of other people. Even though MSNBC has publicly shown support for Reid, Black women are still rallying around Reid as her critics nip at her heels, trying to get her kicked off the air. #WeGotJoy recently started trending on Twitter in an effort to protect Reid, who is currently the only Black woman with an MSNBC show.

Her colleagues in journalism as well as everyday fans of her show have shown up in droves online to voice their support of Reid and her contributions to media.
