Idris Elba just launched his own record label 7Wallace Music

Looks like Elba is adding label honcho to his growing resume.

 

Idris Elba is a man of many talents. Aside from starring roles in television and film, he’s a director, a DJ, and now, he’s running a record label. 

The gorgeous actor who is gearing up to marry Sabrina Dowhre just launched his own record label, 7Wallace Music. 

Elba announced the big news on Tuesday and revealed he already signed his first artist, James BKS. The French producer from Cameroon has already worked with heavy hitters like Talib Kweli and Diddy among others. He has also made music for commercials for huge design houses like Yves Saint-Laurent, Armani, and Prada and scored several French films including La Taularde and Le Gang Des Antillais. His father is the legendary Afro-jazz saxophonist Manu Dibango.

“James is a rare find,” Elba told Billboard. “His hip-hop sensibilities transfer to the other music he makes, he’s a nice person to work with and is gonna be a strong artist in the future. It’s a huge move for 7Wallace, a small indie label.”

James’ single “Kwlele” is slated to drop on July 13 and features, Dibango and Allan Kingdom.

“I want people to get to know my journey,” James said in a statement. “The song is the musical answer to my inner questions. Finally I can be proud of my roots and say this music is fully me.”

Elba is busy raising his two children, planning his upcoming wedding, and prepping the release of his directorial debut, Yardie.

The movie is a reboot of Victor Headley’s 1992 flick of the same name. It’s set in the 1970s-‘80s and follows a man named D (Aml Ameen) who is haunted by the murder of his brother (Everaldo Creary).
