Issa Rae is ready to unleash the third season of Insecure when the hit series returns to HBO on Sunday. She popped in to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to spill some details about what fans can expect and recounted the time she totally failed when she saw Rihanna.

EXCLUSIVE: Issa Rae on her Emmy nomination and ‘Insecure’ Season 3

“I just saw her sitting at the table and I had had a few drinks,” she explains. “So I was like ‘Rihanna’s over there, let me go say hi, she knows me, we homegirls.’ And I went up to her and I was like, you know, tapped her. And she was so friendly and nice, I wasn’t expecting that, and she was like ‘Hey girl, good to see you!’ And I was like ‘Uh…oh…we’re, uh…’ and just excused myself and walked away. So any chance that we had to be best friends, I ruined it with my drunken nervousness, starstruck-ness.”

Fans of the series have a lot to look forward to, but no amount of crying, whining, or internet petitions will be enough to get Lawrence back on the show this season.

Issa Rae covers EBONY and serves serious fashion fierceness

“No, I don’t care!” Rae told Vulture about fans’ reaction to the news that Jay Ellis was off the show in season three.  “We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, she’s moving on … sometimes we have those conversations,” she continued. “You never see the exes again. And it’s okay! You gotta explore life without Lawrence.”

Just like in real life, breakups hurt everyone and this time around, it looks like fans will have to miss Issa’s man as much as she does.
