Mayor Pete starstruck over Lizzo during ‘CBS This Morning’ appearance: “I’m 100% that… nominee”

It's official, Mayor Pete Buttigieg is a Lizzo fan and he made it clear during an appearance on 'CBS This Morning' with the singer

Singer Lizzo was just named Time Magazine “Entertainer of the Year” and it appears South Bend Mayor and Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is among her throngs of fans.

During Thursday’s installment CBS This Morning, Mayor Pete stood alongside the show’s anchors, and the multiple Grammy Award nominee to film a teaser for their respective interviews on the broadcast.

After introducing the two guests, anchor Gayle King asked “Mr. Mayor, what are three words that would best describe you?”

“Standing near Lizzo, right now!” an apparently starstruck Buttigieg answered, which was met with laughter from the hosts.

When she was asked the same question, Lizzo responded that the three words that best described her at the moment were, “Glamorous, talented, and booty-ful!”

“As we all learned recently!” quipped co-anchor Tony Dokoupil, who was clearly referencing the singer-rapper’s recent controversy for twerking at a Los Angeles Lakers game while wearing a dress with the rear end cut off.

Joining in on the banter, King then playfully asked Buttigieg “Have you had any DNA tests recently,” queuing up a reference the infamous lyric from Lizzo’s song “Truth Hurts,” in which she says “I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100% that bitch.”

Buttigieg took the bait and replied, “Yes, and I’m 100 percent that nominee to lead the way to the future!” which was met by even more laughter.

The unscripted high-spirited moment may have lent Mayor Pete a catchy new campaign slogan that could finally get him a bit more attention with Black voters; a demographic with which he has consistently had a hard time connecting.
