Big Sean pays tribute to Naya Rivera: ‘You’re a hero’

The rapper was briefly engaged to the late actress in 2013

Big Sean has broken his silence on the death of his ex-fiancee, Naya Rivera.

The Chicago-based rapper was engaged to the actress in October of 2013 but the couple split a few months later before heading down the aisle. Now, he’s paying tribute to the 33-year-old Glee star who drowned while swimming with her 4-year-old son in California’s Lake Piru on July 8.

He shared a black and white photo of Rivera along with some kind words on Instagram.

“Rest In Peace Naya, God Bless your Soul! Thank you for blessing us all with your talent and presence. you are a hero! Not just because of how you saved your son, also because of the barriers you knocked down for so many people to make them feel confident in themselves and to stand tall and be proud when they couldn’t achieve that on their own,” he posted.

“I appreciate and cherish everything that ever happened between us for making me wiser and a better person. I’m still grieving and in shock, I can’t believe this is real. I’m praying for you and your family and I know your watching over them and protecting them. Rest In Peace Naya ???,”

Rivera married Ryan Dorsey in 2014, welcomed son Josey and divorced in 2018. According to reports, it seems the actress may have drowned after using all of her strength to hoist her son onto the rented pontoon, but was unable to save herself.

An autopsy showed no signs of drugs or alcohol or any suggestion of suicide.

Big Sean isn’t the only person honoring the late star. Many of her former Glee costars have paid tribute to their friend and several even visited the lake where she died to search for her body before it was found.
