Truck runs into Breonna Taylor protest in L.A.; 1 person injured

An overhead news copter captured the entire incident, in which a Ford pickup truck struck someone.

A driver plowed into a crowd of demonstrators demanding justice for Breonna Taylor in Los Angeles Thursday.

Local reports note that a news helicopter was overhead and captured the entire incident in which a Ford pickup truck drove by the group, striking at least one person.

“Shortly after 9:00 pm a blue pick-up truck traveling on Sunset maneuvered through the crowd and became involved in an altercation,” the Los Angeles Police Department said in a written statement. “As the driver attempted to get away from the situation, he struck a protestor standing in the street. That individual was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.”

A second car, a Prius, also attempted to drive around the protest and was involved in an altercation with demonstrators. No one was injured in that incident.

The LAPD said that “all of the drivers and victims involved in both altercations have been identified by Hollywood officers and the investigation is continuing.”

The demonstration, which began at Hollywood Forever Cemetery Thursday, was the second day of protests in Los Angeles after the decision of a Kentucky grand jury to not charge any of the officers involved in Taylor’s killing for her death.

Protests have taken place across the country after only one officer, Brett Hankison, was charged with wanton endangerment for bullets fired into Taylor’s apartment that entered into a neighbor’s home.

Several protests have devolved into violence. In Louisville, two officers were shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries on Wednesday night just hours after Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron made his announcement.

Larynzo Johnson, 26, faces two counts of first-degree assault of a police officer and 14 counts of wanton endangerment of a police officer in the incident. Both wounded officers are expected to recover.

In Seattle, a police officer was recorded rolling his bicycle over the head of a protester who was laying in the street. That officer has been placed on administrative leave.
