Lil’ Kim celebrates Kamala Harris’ victory despite past comments

The 'Hardcore' rapper says she's not holding any grudges over the vice president-elect's comments that she 'glorified gangster culture'

While many rejoiced over the weekend when it was announced that Kamala Harris would make history as the first Black woman elected to vice-president of the United States, fans of rapper Lil’ Kim were somewhat surprised that she joined in on the celebration.

The drama between the entertainer and the politician goes back to 2006 when Harris – who was serving as the San Francisco district attorney at the time – made some less than favorable commentary while appearing on the BET special Lil’ Kim: Countdown to Lockdown.

On the series, which was meant to explore the rapper’s perjury case, Harris slammed the “no snitching” code of silence, explaining, “It is much more serious than ‘What is the code among friends who are on the street. What I would like to see is in the way that we’re handling cases like those of Lil’ Kim, we say as a community, ‘We’re not going to glorify the gangster.'”

The clip resurfaced over the summer after Harris was announced as Joe Biden’s running mate.

In the 2005 case, Kim was convicted of lying to a federal grand jury about a NYC shooting in 2001, receiving a 366-day jail sentence that she served at Philadelphia’s federal detention center. Many took issue with Harris’ comments, citing this as yet another example of the perceived lack of compassion she showed people of color during her years as a DA.

But this weekend, all of that bad blood seemed to be under the bridge when Kim herself spoke up, after the fan page known as Lil Kim Source posted on Instagram, “Although she called you a ‘Glorified gangster’ we’re gonna support #bidenharris2020.”

In response, the rapper commented, “Right support sis any way because she’s a woman a black woman at that then she will see that her actions and words were coming from a hateful place from inside herself.”

“Seeing this will make her feel stupid and hateful still very happy that they Won period,” she added in reference to the BET clip, along with the hashtags #Change and #lovewins.

Kim also sent a congratulatory tweet once Harris was officially confirmed as the VP-elect.
