Disney drops ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’ trailer starring Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff

Union stars alongside Zach Braff in the Disney+ film, which is set to drop on the streamer this March

Cheaper by the Dozen starring Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff has finally dropped its first trailer. By the looks of the clip, the film is delivering on all we’ve come to expect from the popular series.

Like the 2003 film, Cheaper by the Dozen follows the Bakers, a married couple who together are raising ten children. Per the Disney+ description, the film is a “fresh take” that’s “a funny and heartwarming story of the raucous exploits of a blended family of 12, the Bakers, as they navigate a hectic home life while simultaneously managing their family business.”

The trailer gives viewers an inside look at the new Baker family, in the film co-written by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris.

The film, directed by Gail Lerner, is of course not only a remake of the popular 2003 film but is inspired by the 1950 movie of the same name, which was based on the autobiography by Frank Bunker Gilbreth, Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey.

The full cast includes Union, Braff, Erika Christensen, Timon Kyle Durrett, Journee Brown, Kylie Rogers, Andre Robinson, Caylee Blosenski, Aryan Simhadri, Leo Abelo Perry, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Christian Cote, Sebastian Cote, and Luke Prael. Barris co-writes alongside Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry, a producer and writer known for work on Black-ish, Grown-ish and The Game.

In the clip, Union and Braff narrate as Zoey and Paul, detailing their blended family and the various situations the twelve find themselves in. “We’re not a cult,” Paul states in the trailer. Zoey then adds, “But we’re weird. We’re one of a kind all the way.”

With Union and Braff’s casting, this marks the first Cheaper by the Dozen film to incorporate an interracial couple. Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt starred in the 2003 film, while Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy starred in the 1950 original film.

TheGrio first reported the film and Union’s involvement in January of 2021. At the time, Braff took to Instagram to celebrate his role and the fact that he was starring alongside Union. He wrote, “I dreamt I married Gabrielle Union and had 12 kids. It came true!!!! Written by Kenya Barris!!!!! Let’s GO!”

Cheaper By the Dozen will stream March 18 on Disney+.
