Taraji P. Henson to host 2022 BET Awards

The actress is hosting the annual award show for the second year in a row.

The 2022 BET Awards has found its host. The network announced Thursday that Taraji P. Henson will preside over the ceremony for the second year in a row.

The awards will take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on June 26 and the ceremony will air live on BET at 8 p.m. When Henson last hosted the BET Awards, it was the number-one-rated cable award show among all adults 18-49, per an official press release.

“Taraji P. Henson is the personification of Black excellence, and we are excited to collaborate with the phenomenal multi-talented stage and screen actress to host the ultimate celebration of Black culture again this year,” said Connie Orlando, EVP of specials, music programming & music strategy at BET.

Orlando will oversee the award show, with production handled by Jesse Collins Entertainment. Collins will also serve as co-executive producer along with Dionne Harmon and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay.

“I am honored to return as the host of the BET Awards and share the stage with so many powerful and prolific artists; you can even say it is the ‘empire’ of Black Excellence,” Henson said in a statement. “Working with amazing partners like Scott and Connie at BET and Jesse Collins Entertainment is a creative’s dream. I can’t wait to celebrate Black music, entertainment, and culture with our viewers on what will be one unforgettable night.”

In September, Henson struck an overall deal with BET via her TPH Entertainment company. In the “unprecedented studio venture,” TPH can produce original content for internal buyers, like BET, BET+, SHOWTIME, CBS, Nickelodeon, or Paramount+, with BET and Paramount+ providing financial backing.

In addition, BET Studios will place programming on third-party platforms looking for best-in-class content from high-profile and rising Black creatives.

Nominees, performers, and presenters for the 2022 BET Awards will be announced at a later date.
