Kevin Hart is an African-American comedian, spokesman, producer, and actor. He is among the highest-paid comedians in the world.
Early Life
Kevin Hart was born on July 6, 1979, in Philadelphia. His mother, Nancy Hart, worked in the University of Pennsylvania’s Office of Student Registration and Financial Services. She raised Kevin Hart and his brother, Robert, as a single mother.
Hart’s father, Henry Robert Witherspoon, was a cocaine addict who spent the majority of Hart’s childhood in and out of prison, which led Hart to turn to humor as a coping mechanism for his chaotic family life. After his father overcame his addiction, their relationship got better.
Hart began attending the Community College of Philadelphia and Temple University after he graduated from George Washington High School before quitting and relocating to New York City. He then moved to Brockton, Massachusetts, where he ended up getting a job selling shoes.
Kevin Hart’s Wife
Eniko Hart
Eniko and Kevin began dating in 2009. At the time, he was still legally married to his first wife, Torrei Hart. After dating for five years, on Eniko’s 30th birthday, Kevin got down on one knee and proposed to her. After a year of engagement, they finally married on August 13, 2016.
Kevin and Eniko have two children together. In the year 2017, Eniko gave birth to a son. The couple chose Kenzo Kash Hart as the name for their son. Their daughter, Kaori Mai, the couple’s second child, was born on September 29, 2020.
While Eniko was eight months pregnant with Kenzo, Kevin found himself embroiled in a cheating scandal. He owned up to cheating on her, and she made him work for it to earn back her trust. He also told Romper that he has been open about the scandals in his life with his kids, because he knows the truth will always come out, so they should hear it from him.
Torrei Hart
Torrei Hart is Kevin Hart’s first wife. Torrei and Kevin wed in 2003, and in 2010, they announced their separation on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. The divorce was made final in November 2011. They have two children, Heaven Leigh (born in 2005) and Hendrix (born in 2007). They share joint custody of the two children.
The actress and comedienne was asked in an interview as she was leaving LAX airport why she still goes by her ex-last husband’s name even after their divorce 10 years ago. She stated that her kids don’t want her to change her name and that Kevin Hart also has no problem with her maintaining his last name.
Kevin Hart’s comedy career
Although Hart has now earned a reputation as one of the most popular comedians, it was not always roses and sunshine at the beginning. Hart’s debut stand-up act, which he gave as Lil Kev at The Laff House in his hometown of Philadelphia, wasn’t much of a success.
His career got off to a slow start, and he frequently received boos as he left the stage. There was one time that someone even threw a piece of chicken at him. Following those first unsuccessful performances, he started competing in comedy contests all over Massachusetts, and eventually, the response from the audience improved.
It took Hart some time to find his own distinct comedic voice. After initially trying to emulate comedians such as Chris Tucker, he developed his own style by exploring his own life experiences and insecurities.
Hart started his comedy tours in 2009 with his act, “I’m a Grown Little Man,” which was followed by “Let Me Explain,” “Laugh at My Pain,” and “Seriously Funny.”
Hart’s “Laugh at My Pain” tour was among the best-selling comedy tours that year, with earnings of more than $15 million. This helped Hart grow an audience, with the majority of his foreign fans discovering him on YouTube.
