Feb. 25, 2023 – 05:58 – Located in the heart of West Philadelphia, Hakim’s Bookstore & Gift Shop has remained a safe haven for Black literature since the late 1950s. Hakim’s has always prioritized its large collection of rare books written by African-American authors. To this day it stands as a one of America’s finest examples of the curation and preservation of Black literature. ‘theGrio Legacy’ explores the lineage of beloved Black-owned businesses, founded during the Civil Rights era, that have withstood the test of time while managing to “keep it in the family.”
