DETROIT (AP) — A man who told police his 2-year-old daughter was kidnapped during a carjacking last week said Tuesday that he believes she’s alive and just wants her returned safely.
D’Andre Lane told WJBK-TV that he’s focused solely on getting his daughter, Bianca Jones, back safely and is unconcerned that police doubt his story. He claims he was carjacked in Detroit on Friday and that the thieves drove off with his daughter still strapped in her car seat.
“I don’t care what you do, just bring her home,” D’Andre Lane said.
The car was found but the child is missing. Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee said the father’s story is under “intense scrutiny” by investigators.
“I really don’t care about all the scrutiny that they place on me because if my daughter comes back home safely, that’s all that matters. … I don’t hurt my children,” Lane told WJBK (http://bit.ly/tIXlBp).
Lane was released Monday from the Oakland County jail where he was being held in an unrelated matter. His attorney, Terry L. Johnson, would not let Lane answer a reporter’s questions about the moments before the alleged carjacking.
Dozens of volunteers have joined police in searching for Bianca.
“I feel her. She’s out there. She wants to come home,” Lane said.
He said he and Bianca were victims of a “random” act. Lane has a criminal record but doesn’t believe it was done by an enemy.
“The people who did this just panicked. They’re taking care of her and they’re going to let her go safely,” Lane said.
