Academy-Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson is set to take on the small screen as a guest star on NBC’s Smash. The R&B songstress will appear in a multi-episode arc during the second season of the musical drama when it returns to the NBC schedule in the fall.

Hudson will star as Veronica Moore, a Tony-Award-winning Broadway performer who impacts the lives of Karen (Katherine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty). According to Robert Greenblatt, chairmen of NBC Entertainment, “her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it.”

The show’s executive producer, Steven Spielberg said “First Dreamgirls, now Smash. I have no doubt Jennifer will continue to deliver even more inspiration to the audience responsible for giving us a second season on NBC.”

Hudson’s acting career took off with her starring role as Effie White in 2006’s Dreamgirls. She has since starred in Sex and the City, The Secret Life of Bees, and The Three Stooges. This summer, she will begin production on two new films, Lullaby and The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete.
