Jordan Sparks garnered many fans on American Idol with her golden voice. Today, she’s creating a stir with her new figure. Sparks revealed her radical 50 pound weight loss on the cover of Shape magazine on newsstands now.

In the accompanying cover story, the now slimmer Sparks shares how she once embraced her plus-sized figure. She admitted that she loved food and her curves and even ventured into modeling plus-sized clothing. However, a few days shy of her 21st birthday, an early morning wake up call prompted the 22-year-old to take control of her life and her health. Sparks was diagnosed with walking pneumonia, adding that she couldn’t breathe and felt fatigued. It was then when she realized that she needed to make a change. Sparks told Shape:
I remember thinking, ‘I’m in my prime. I should be happy and fit.’ That was the moment when I decided that changes needed to be made.
The singer decided to start eating smaller portions, eating leaner foods and exercising. But Sparks isn’t the only Idol alum to shed excess weight.
Earlier this month, Michael Lynche revealed his 90 pound weight loss, admitting that he wanted to be around for his children for as long as possible, in addition to wanting to be healthy.

With her new film Sparkle coming out soon — it’s due out on August 17 — Sparks hopes her new look will result in a countless number of new projects.
