NBC Chicago – Witnesses said a woman waiting for a bus was one of five people wounded when gunfire erupted at a busy corner Monday evening in the South Shore neighborhood.

The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. in the 7500 block of South Exchange Avenue, outside a Western Union currency exchange store.

A woman sitting on a bench was hit, went inside the store and collapsed, witnesses said. At least three other men fell to the ground after being shot.

“It’s just spots. It’s not the whole community that’s overran with gangs and shooting and all that. It’s just spots,” said resident Sidney Brooks.

The fire department said paramedics took two people in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, two people in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and one person in good to fair condition to South Shore Hospital.
