Brandy Norwood is now engaged, according to reports. “A spokeswoman for the 33-year-old R&B singer and actress says she’ll marry music executive Ryan Press, though a wedding date has not been announced,” confirms Billboard.com.
“The Boy is Mine” chart-topper told US Weekly that it took some time to finally land the man of her dreams outside of the lyrics of a song. “I had given up on love a long time ago,” Norwood said. “It just didn’t seem to work for me, so I was single for a very long time. I stopped looking for love and then I ran into my boyfriend.
“He just loves me for who I am,” she continued. “I don’t have to camouflage anything for him or put on a mask. I can completely be myself and he loves me so much and I love him just the way he is, too.”
Her engagement caps off a big year for Brandy, which included the release of her album Two Eleven. How will she top its debut at number three on the Billboard 200 charts? In 2013, you can catch her in the coming Tyler Perry movie, Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.
This will be Norwood’s first marriage, following a period of time when Brandy pretended to be married to the father of her daughter, Sy’rai, 10. Although she never formally tied the knot with producer Robert Smith, the entertainer asserts that theirs was a serious relationship.
“I lied because of the fear of what people would think and the pressure to be a good role model,” Norwood stated in an interview. “Our relationship was very real, we just weren’t legally married.”
Brandy was snapped earlier this week with her new fiancé on a beach vacation to Hawaii.
