Director Lee Daniels’ upcoming biopic The Butler, which chronicles the life of longtime White House service worker Eugene Allen, is one of the most anticipated films of the year.

It also one of the most star studded. In addition to Forest Whitaker playing the lead role, the film features a cast that includes Oprah Winfrey, Jane Fonda, John Cusack, Robin Williams, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Alan Rickman — just to name a few.

Daniels has also not been shy about casting pop stars in his motion pictures. His Academy-Award-winning Precious featured both rock star Lenny Kravitz and R&B diva Mariah Carey in supporting roles, which downplayed their glamorous off-screen personas.

A barely-recognizable Carey will be playing what appears to be the role of a slave named Hattie Pearl in the film. A first look of Carey in character, working in the cotton fields, has surfaced.
