HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Former NFL player Hugh Douglas has pleaded not guilty to charges he assaulted his girlfriend at a Hartford hotel.

The lawyer for the 42-year-old former defensive end with the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars entered the plea to charges of felony assault and strangulation in Hartford Superior Court on Monday.

The judge ordered his GPS monitoring device removed. Douglas, who lives in Bryn Mawr, Pa., must tell his lawyer when he returns to Connecticut and the lawyer must inform prosecutors.

A police report says Douglas’ girlfriend alleged he grabbed her by her throat and slammed her into the walls while carrying her to their hotel room. According to police, Douglas said the marks on her neck were from rough sex.

His case was continued to Nov. 19
