Attorney General Eric Holder has long been one of the most reviled members of the Obama Administration by Republicans.

He has frequently been the target of conservative Congressman who have hauled him in for hearings and even found him in contempt.

Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.), one of the most conservative members of the House, is making no secret about his desire to “impeach” the nation’s first ever black Attorney General.

“It will probably be when we get back in [Washington]. It will be before the end of the year. This will go to the speaker and the speaker will decide if it comes up or not,” he told the Gainesville Sun.

According to Yoho’s chief of staff Cat Cammack, it’s Holder’s handling of the controversial Fast and Furious sting operation that has the Republicans the most fired up.

“Obviously there is a lot frustration with our attorney general. You can name the botched programs,” Cammack said. “Fast and Furious has been one of the number-one complaints we get in our office and why no one has been held accountable.”

Congress does have the power to bring impeachment proceedings against the president, vice president or any member of his cabinet if they are found to have committed treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors. The House votes to impeach and the Senate conducts a “trial” which would require a two-thirds vote to convict.

The Politico reports that the House has only impeached one member of the president’s cabinet in history, Secretary of War William Belknap in 1876, for corruption.

An internal Justice Department investigation last fall cleared Holder of any wrongdoing in the Fast and Furious controversy.
