First, Michael B. Jordan has been the subject of rumors for the new Star Wars films (to be directed by J.J. Abrams) and now recent Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o is reportedly being sought after for a prominent role.

The Star Wars films have long been knocked for a lack of diversity.

Were Billy Dee Williams and Samuel L. Jackson the only black men in the universe? Inquiring minds wanted to know.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Nyong’o’s name has surfaced in connection to Star Wars. Because of the secrecy, it is unclear which role it could be. One possibility is that of a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which has been described as a non-Caucasian role.”

British black actor John Boyega (Attack the Block) is also reportedly being considered for a major role in the new films.

Abrams’ Star Wars films are expected to pick up where the original trilogy left off with 1983’s Return of the Jedi.

The Star Wars films are arguably the most profitable movies ever made, cementing George Lucas’ status as a major filmmaker and making household names out of actors like Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.

The first new Star Wars sequel is expected to debut sometime next year.
