M.I.A. made a big splash when she flashed her middle finger during a 2012 Super Bowl appearance alongside Madonna and Nicki Minaj.

But the controversial hip-hop artist probably never bargained for the fine she would be hit with from the NFL.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pro football league is seeking a total of $16.6 million in damages from the “Paper Planes” performer. The amount is based on the advertising revenue that would have been generated by the roughly two minutes M.I.A. was on stage.

“The claim for restitution lacks any basis in law, fact, or logic,” M.I.A.’s reps said in response.
