Attorney General Eric Holder raised eyebrows last night with some unscripted remarks at the opening of Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network civil rights conference.

His remarks came on the heels of a heated exchange at a hearing with far-right Congressman Louis Gohmert (R-TX), in which the representative brought up a 2012 contempt vote against Holder over the Fast and Furious gun running scandal.

Holder snapped: “You don’t want to go there buddy, all right? You don’t want to go there, OK?”

At the NAN conference, Holder alluded to the exchange.

“I’m pleased to note that the last five years have been defined by significant strides and by lasting reforms even in the face, even in the face of unprecedented, unwarranted, ugly and divisive adversity,” he said.

“And if you don’t believe that, you look at the way — and forget about me, forget about me — you look at the way the attorney general of the United States was treated yesterday by a House committee,” he continued. “That had nothing to do with me. Forget that. What attorney general has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment? What president has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment?”
