The family of a Mississippi man beaten and shot by his stepson says the assault should be considered a hate crime.

Craig Wilson is in critical condition after he was brutally attacked his stepson, Jeff Daniels, for allowing his biracial grandchildren to stay at his home over the weekend.

“They called him some severe names and then they told him to leave and they chased him off his porch around his house and beat him with brass knuckles and shot him with his own gun,” said Julie Wilson, the victim’s sister.

Wilson says Daniels burned a cross on the lawn of her brother’s home two weeks prior to the beating.
