A new twist on the classic fairytale Rapunzel is seeking support on the crowdfunding site GoFundMe.

The independent film, titled Rapunzel Jackson, is seeking $10,000 to create a film that’s “the story of a young girl being pulled by her roots into womanhood,” according to the site.

The reference to roots is quite literal, as this version of the eponymous heroine must “get a perm” in order to be united with her prince. On the film’s IMBD page, a brief synopsis of the film states that, “Rapunzel Jackson is an urban take on the fairy tale “Rapunzel.”

A one minute trailer has also been released, showing Rapunzel’s efforts to change her hair in order to become a lady and “lay her hair down just like Rapunzel in the fairytale.” Midway through the trailer, a boy tells Rapunzel, “You’re already the prettiest girl in town. I don’t know why you changed your hair, made it all smelly.”

The trailer has a little over 1,200 views on YouTube to date. 51 backers have raised almost $5,400 over the last five months in support of the movie. Rapunzel Jackson is being produced by Spinflight Studios and will star Juanita Jennings as Grandma Zolla, Morgan Ashley as Rapunzel Jackson, and Demitris Dajoun as Junior Jackson.
