A former member of the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team reportedly went missing earlier this month in southern California.

Rico Omarr Harris, 37, who briefly played for the Globetrotters during the spring of 2000, left his home in Alhambra to visit his girlfriend, Jennifer Song, in Seattle. Song says that she last spoke to Harris the morning of October 10, according to KCPQ-Fox.

Harris would later leave Song a voicemail message. His empty black Nissan sedan was found on October 13 by a Yolo County deputy near Rumsey, outside of Sacramento. When the deputy returned the following day, the car was still present, causing him to run its license plate and get in contact with Harris’ mother. No one had reported the man missing at that time.

Song and Harris had recently moved in together, and Harris was reportedly retrieving some of his belongings from his California home. A search of the area surrounding the car yielded no sign of Harris. Despite little evidence pointing to where Harris might have disappeared to, Song said that, “He will come home, and I think he would be very happy that I’m saying it like that.”

According to Lt. Lance Faille, two witnesses saw “a very tall black male” walking on October 11 near where the car would be found two days later. Harris stands 6’9” and weighs 280 pounds. Faille couldn’t confirm that the man was indeed Harris.

On why the car might have been left, Faille said, “He may have had car issues. We’re not sure. There’s no cell service up there.”

Authorities continued their search via land and air this week, but have as yet been unable to locate Harris.
