Spike Lee slams 'Real Housewives of Atlanta,' 'post-racial America'

theGRIO REPORT - Spike Lee says he doesn't think we live in a post-racial society since the election of President Barack Obama...

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Spike Lee dismissed the notion that we live in post-racial society since the election of America’s first black president during an interview with Fusion TV.

Lee sat down with Fusion’s Jorge Ramos to discuss race in America, including the recent shooting death of Michael Brown and Eric Gardener, who died after being placed in a chokehold by a NYPD officer.

The Do the Right Thing director started out the discussion by taking a jab at The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

After asking the audience members to raise their hands if the watch the RHOA, Lee said the show “is bringing about the destruction of the modern world.”

I don’t care who you are; if you’re African-American in this country, you know what the deal is. The deal is that your black. The people that get in trouble and the people that forget they’re black. You can’t just think that I’m so successful that I’ve reached another realm. That I’m in the so-called [post-racial America]… that is bullshit. Because now we have a black president, race no longer matters.

There are times even today that it’s hard for me to catch a cab sometimes.”
