Although Swift’s birthday party was fairly low key, just a pizza party at her house, top stars like Jay Z, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, and others attended. In an Instagram post of the event, Taylor wrote, “So this is being 25…… #WHAT?” and added, “#bestbirthdayEVER.”
The party started early at a Billboard event, where Swift received Billboard’s Woman of the Year Award (her second). At the event, Aretha Franklin sang “Happy Birthday” to her, and Swift could hardly hide her excitement. “Aretha Franklin just sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to me and it will take me decades to recover. #goals,” she tweeted.
“I turn 25 at midnight tonight, and I fully intend to celebrate like it’s 1989,” she joked in a speech at the Billboard event — though when the clock actually struck 12, she was onstage performing at Z100’s Jingle Ball concert.
