How much is “too much” black history?

Three teachers at a middle school located on Howard University’s campus have allegedly been fired for teaching black history “beyond” what was mandated.

Parents at Howard University Middle School of Math and Science tell News4 the teachers were escorted out of the school in front of students.

Michelle Payne’s son is an eighth grader at the school. She told News4’s Kristin Wright she was “disappointed” in the decision.

“It’s about the history of who we are and where we come from,” Payne said in the report.

Later Payne told Wright the three teachers made up the “whole” social studies department at the school.

Wright reports that two D.C. Council Education Committee officials are investigating the claim.

The school has yet to release a statement on the matter.
