Abby Wake did not realize she was pregnant until she was eight months along. Now, she and her boyfriend are rushing to prepare for the new arrival.
Wake and her boyfriend, Jarryd Gorman, had in fact noticed some weight gain, but because Wake is lactose intolerant, they believed she was simply bloated. Wake did feel some movement but believed it was just gas.
“Cause it wasn’t distinct. There weren’t like kicks and huge movements. It was just like gurgles,” she said.

Eventually, Gorman came to suspect that the weight gain and “gas” were something more, and when he felt a kick as he put his hand on Wake’s belly during a concert, he knew what it was.
“I felt the baby kick and I looked at her and said, ‘I think you’re definitely pregnant,’” he said. “We need to go see someone straight away.”
They went to go see Payman Joseph, a local obstetrician-gynecologist. “And he was just like, ’32 weeks.’ He was just doing the measurements. And we were like, ‘I’m sorry?’”
But while the couple was surprised, Joseph was not. “It is more common than most people think,” he said.
But despite the huge surprise, the couple is excited for their new baby and is building a nursery. Gorman’s Australian visa is set to expire at the end of the month, and he hopes he can remain in the country to be there for baby Isaac’s arrival.
