Grammy-nominated R&B singer Kelly Price is outraged with a Los Angeles area 24-hour CVS after the pharmacist refused to fill her prescription for painkillers “because of the neighborhood.”

Price tells CBSLA that she believes she was denied painkillers from a Carson, California, CVS at 1 a.m. last Tuesday because the drug store was located in a low-income area.

“I was offended for the people of this neighborhood. I was offended for anybody who lives in a neighborhood that may not be considered the upper echelon where expensive homes are, or where six- and seven-figure earners live,” Price said in an interview with CBS.

She says she eventually located the store’s manager and, after 30 minutes of arguing, convinced the pharmacist to fill her prescription.

Price says she needed the pills for an upcoming dental procedure.

CVS corporate has since offered an apology to Price on the phone last Wednesday and issued a statement to CBS that read, “It is not the store’s or the company’s policy to decline to fill certain prescriptions after midnight.”
