Amber Simone Chinn was born with a birth defect, and doctors told her parents that she was not expected to be able to breathe on her own, much less speak.

Now, at 19, Chinn sings her heart out.

When she was born, Chinn was diagnosed with left craniosynostosis, a condition in which the joints between the skull bones fuse prematurely.

When she was six months old, she underwent a procedure that doctors did not expect her to ever recover from. They told her parents she would never speak on her own, which is what made Chinn’s recovery so miraculous.

Recently, Chinn attended a graduation party for a friend, and while she was there, someone caught her on camera singing a rendition of “The Worst,” by Jhene Akio. Since then, her story and her video have gone viral, with over 2 million views as of Tuesday after the video was uploaded to Facebook.

“It’s hard to grasp,” Chinn told WGRZ. “I have confidence, but I never thought me sitting by the pool, a random video would be so viral.”

Chinn is a student at SUNY Buffalo State and is working with local music producers to put out an original song of her own.
