Evelyn Lozada is back in front of the camera after leaving the cast of Vh1’s Basketball Wives in 2013 and taking a two year hiatus from reality TV.
Now, Lozada and her 22-year-old daughter, Shaniece, are preparing the launch of their new reality show, Livin’ Lozada, which premieres Saturday on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
The show follows Lozada as she moves on from the heartache of her highly publicized divorce from football star Chad Johnson stemming from a domestic violence incident.
Lozada opened up about her new show serving as a platform for healing.
She recalled appearing on the premiere episode of OWN’s Iyanla: Fix My Life in 2012 and says the spiritual life coach helped her “grow and heal.”
“I’m glad that I did that interview and I’m glad that I did speak to her after the domestic violence incident because [Vanzant] really helped me,” Lozada tells theGrio. “She really helped me grow and heal and made me think about things I wasn’t necessarily thinking about.”
Lozada says for years the public has had the misconception that she was a bully or a “mean girl” but hopes to set the record straight regarding her character with Livin’ Lozada.
“People are like I’m mean, ‘she’s a bully.’ I did do some foolish things. I own up to those things. I’m a good person. I just did some foolish things, filming TV…not caring. I kind of was just in my own little toxic space.”
Lozada is currently engaged to big league baseball player Carl Crawford, and the couple have a one-year-old son, Leo.
Shaniece is advancing in the world of modeling and working on starting her own bikini line.
The series is filled with close friends and relatives in the ladies’ lives who help round out a world filled with laughter, support and encouragement.
