Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation star Jeremy Renner talked to theGrio about reprising his role in the series and working with series newcomer Alec Baldwin.

The fifth installment in the Mission Impossible series, Rogue Nation, sees Tom Cruise back as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Hunt needs the help of his fellow agents William Brant (Renner), Benji (Simon Pegg) and Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) to take down the international crime organization known as The Syndicate.

For the past 19 years, MI films have been known for their seemingly impossible stunts, and Rogue Nation continues that tradition. The incredibly action-packed espionage thriller provides audiences with daring stunts and mind-blowing sequences.

Renner told theGrio it was great to rejoin the cast and shared how it’s always interesting to see what a new director will bring to the series.

“I always assume we’re probably going to do another one,” Renner said about getting the call to reprise his role as Brant.

Christopher McQuarrie stepped in as director this time around, in addition to co-writing the screenplay. McQuarrie praised the crew he worked with, saying, “They had an ever-expanding appetite for invention, and they absorbed every challenge with intelligence and boldness.”

Newcomers Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris and Golden Globe and Emmy winner Alec Baldwin join the original cast this time around. Ferguson plays Ilsa, the femme fatale who keeps Hunt on his toes, while Harris steps in as the ultimate villain match for Hunt. Baldwin joins as CIA head, and natural antagonist to Hunt, Alan Hunley.

“Every day was a funny moment with him,” Renner said in regards to working closely with Baldwin. “His process is so funny.”

Rogue Nation opened over the weekend, becoming Cruise’s third-highest grossing film to date, with a gross of $56 million in the U.S.

With the series going stronger than ever, it’s no wonder talks of a Mission Impossible 6 have already surfaced. According to Variety, Cruise confirmed to Jon Stewart on The Daily Show last week that work on the sixth installment is currently happening, and filming could begin as early as next summer.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation is currently open nationwide.
