Trailer revealed for Will Smith's new film 'Concussion,' exposes NFL player head injuries

This probably isn’t the kickoff celebration the NFL had in mind.

Will Smith’s new film, Concussion, tells the story of  the doctor who proved the link between NFL players who suffered from major neurological problems and the head injuries that these players suffered during their careers.

This of course was met with vehement denials from NFL officials. The film is based on the GQ article “Game Brain,” which was published nearly six years ago.

In the film, Smith plays Dr. Bennet Omalu, who discovered after studying the brains of former pros Dave Duerson (played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Andre Waters (played by Richard T. Jones) that the two were suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which is a neuro-degenerative disease that is caused by repeated trauma to the head, such as that experienced by head injuries on the field during a player’s NFL career.

Concussion hits theaters on Christmas Day.
