How to Get Away with Murder can sometimes get a bit steamy, and the cast recently got together to explain how they’re able to “get away with” their sex scenes while still complying with the censors.

“We do push the envelope sometimes with our sex scenes,” HTGAWM executive producer Peter Nowalk told Entertainment Tonight. “But ABC has always been supportive, and we stick within the rules.”

Along with tips for good editing and camera angles, the cast talks about ways to keep the sex scenes within the guidelines.

“You have to be very careful with your facial expressions,” Aja Naomi King said.

“The feet is only part that I will show,” Viola Davis joked. “That’s it. Ankle down — perfect!”

There was also apparently a bit of cutting done when the censors saw Karla Souza (Laurel) and Charlie Weber’s (Frank) scene. A bit of that scene was removed, according to Souza, who said the censors took issue with “Laurel taking charge of where Frank’s hand goes.”
