Tracy Morgan’s recovery from a massive car crash last summer hasn’t been easy.

The comedian lost his friend and fellow comic James McNair and has spent the last year and half working to get himself back into shape and back on the big screen.

Morgan gave an in-depth interview with Complex and discussed details of his recovery, upcoming projects and how his perspective on life has changed since the accident.

Perhaps the most compelling portion of the interview is right in the beginning. Morgan says God spoke to him in the initial days following the crash:

Well, you’re never going to be normal after you go through something like that. You don’t die for a few weeks and then come back to normal, trust me. Something’s going to be missing, something’s going to be gained — you just got to live your life after that. But after surviving something like that, I’m probably never going to feel normal. I went to the other side. This is not something I’m making up. Do you know what God said to me? He said, ‘Your room ain’t ready. I still got something for you to do.’ And here I am, doing an interview with you.

Earlier this month, Morgan reflected on his journey about having to get his strength up to walk again :

I remember this time last year I was in a wheelchair wondering if I was gonna walk again,” Morgan told Entertainment Tonight. “Now I’m doing a Footlocker commercial.

Morgan tells Complex he just wrapped up a movie with Ice Cube and Charlie O’Day called Fist Fight.

Here’s to many more projects for Morgan in 2016 and beyond.
