Police in Pomona are searching for a man who is accused of killing a woman by allegedly dousing her with gasoline and setting her on fire.

Neighbors saw the woman running from a house. She was completely engulfed in flames and then collapsed on the street, where concerned witnesses tried to give her aid until Los Angeles County fire personnel were able to arrive on the scene.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was treated for severe burns on the scene. She was later taken to a hospital but ultimately died.

Police believe that the incident began when a domestic dispute escalated into violence. The man at some point changed the woman out of the home and then doused her in gasoline, lighting the gas, possibly with a cigarette.

Police have described the man in question as black, 5-foot-10 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, with black and grey hair, and brown eyes. He has been identified as 51-year-old Clarence Duwell Dear.

Dear is considered to be “extremely dangerous,” though it is unknown whether or not he was armed.
