Kaepernick jersey sales skyrocket to number one amidst controversy

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

While it might seem like all the attention Colin Kaepernick has been receiving is negative, that is not the case. While he is no longer a starting quarterback, his fan base is growing.

The backup quarterback is currently the 49ers top-selling jersey on their site. He used to be 20th. That is quite the jump.

According to NFL.com, he is also the fifth-highest selling jersey in the league right now.

The rise in sales follows his national anthem protests that saw him either sitting or kneeling during the anthem. These moves caused a lot of controversy but have apparently also caused his popularity to skyrocket.

By sitting out the national anthem, he was protesting police brutality and the way “black people and people of color” are treated in the US.

While Kaepernick’s actions have enraged some to the point of burning the jerseys they already had of his, it seems like his message is strongly resonating with others.
