Massive brawl breaks out at Chicago supermax jail

Five inmates at a supermax jail in Chicago are in serious to critical condition after a brawl broke out Friday.

The entire fight was caught on camera, and the prisoners can be seen fighting with weapons that they made out of inhalers. Four of the five inmates injured in the fight are awaiting trial on murder charges.

The fight only lasted approximately a minute and half and was quickly suppressed by staff.

A spokeswoman for the jail told the Chicago Tribune that none of the inmates sustained life-threatening injuries.

Some of those injured suffered puncture wounds from two makeshift weapons fashioned out of parts of inhalers. Authorities are investigating where the weapons came from exactly.

Video shows the fight starting as a man tried to run up the stairs to get away from another inmate. It was then that a different inmate took the opportunity to hit another man in the back of the head.

One of the other prisoners was punched in the head, causing his head to bounce off of a cement pillar. He was left on the ground until someone pulls him away from those attacking him.

There were about 30 men in the room; all of them seemed prepared to fight if they had to, though many lined up against the wall in an attempt to stay out of the fracas.

When the guards rushed into the room, the inmates dropped to the floor. The guards were equipped with tasers that they used on one individual.
