Trump repeatedly referred to Elizabeth Warren as ‘Pocahontas’ during bipartisan meeting

During a bipartisan lunch with senators, President Donald Trump reportedly referred to Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas.”

“Pocahontas is now the face of your party,” he reportedly told Democrats who had come to the event.

Warren recently found herself in the spotlight when she took the Senate floor and spoke out against the confirmation of former senator Jeff Sessions at Trump’s nominee for the position of attorney general. She read a letter from Coretta Scott King that condemned Sessions for racism, and after she was barred from speaking by Senator Mitch McConnell, Warren became a rallying cry for the left.

Trump coined the name for Warren because of her “high cheekbones” and refused to stop using it despite backlash against the racially-charged nickname.

Trump also reportedly brought up his oft-repeated claim that millions of people illegally voted for Hillary Clinton, and a source close to the situation said that the mood at the event was “completely awkward” when he did. Trump’s claims of voter fraud have been repeatedly disproven, but he has continued to maintain that he is right and even pushed for an investigation into the allegations of fraud during his first weeks in office.
