Police union video claims “blue racism” against cops is worse than actual racism
A video by a New York City police union, the Sergeants Benevolent Association, has just been released claiming that “blue racism” is prevalent in American society and worse than actual racism.
The video describes “blue racism” as prejudice against police officer and describes how the average person sees a cop:
“The average person doesn’t see those things that make me human. They don’t even label me based on being African American, Latino, Asian, Caucasian, and so on. They tend to see an even broader stereotype through an even more racist lens. When they look at me, they see blue.”

Basically, the video says that people who look at police officers see the badge and uniform instead of the person, and that constitutes racism. The video even quotes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This despite the fact that a person’s job does not constitute a race in any way, shape, or form and despite the fact that police officers are not a protected minority under the law.
Yes, there is a growing gulf between police officers and the communities they protect. But videos like this completely miss the mark on the actual reason that gulf exists.
