Russell Simmons, Waka Flocka, and Mya recently got together with PETA for a roundtable discussion about why they had decided to follow the vegan lifestyle.
Mya described how she had been raised on “everything” but decided to switch lifestyles “once I opened my eyes and was seeking knowledge, that’s when I received all the information, which led me to stick to it. So now it’s a lifetime commitment, because now I can’t turn back.”
Simmons said that he made the decision because he felt for “the hundred billion animals” around the world.
And Waka Flocka’s response was short and to the point: “I was fat!”

They also discussed how the vegan lifestyle affects them as African-Americans in particular. Both Mya and Simmons spoke about how they had grown up eating chitlins (pig intestines) and pig’s feet, and Flocka said that he had been called bougie.
