Teacher raps geography remix of “Bodak Yellow,” class goes wild
It was only a matter of time before people started getting creative with Cardi B’s hit Bodak Yellow but you might be surprised at the new life the song has taken on.
Erica Buddington is a Brooklyn author and educator and she posted a clip on Twitter that showed her rapping the song to her sixth grade Capital Prep Harlem class. You might remember that the school was originally opened by Diddy and educator Dr. Steve Perry last year.
There was a twist to the new take on the song however, Buddington made the song all about geography.
Buddington is the founder of Langston League, which “designs equitable and culturally relevant curriculum, with an emphasis on literacy, for children of color.”

When speaking to reporters Buddington made clear that this is not the first time she has used a song as an educating tool.
“We’ve used the ‘Panda’ beat for figurative language,” she said. “And we have poems and little verses for little things. ‘Panda’ was more so them. This was mostly me. We have another for history, modifying ‘Mask Off’ so they can learn their presidents. Last year, to learn rocks, a science teacher did ‘We Will Rock You.’ They love it!”
According to her, the educational songs aren’t all her doing.
“[My students] say little phrases in class and I put most of the rest of it together,” she said. “I helped them write it, but I want it to be about them. They deserve it.”
