Police: Man who claimed he was stabbed for looking like a neo-Nazi made it up
A Colorado man has been arrested and charged with filing a false report after he claimed that he was attacked and stabbed for looking like a neo-Nazi.
Joshua Witt, 26, said that he had been outside a Steak ‘n Shake restaurant when a man approached him and asked if he was a “neo-Nazi.” Witt claimed that his hand was injured when he tried to protect himself from the man trying to stab him.
However, police started to doubt the story when they did not see anyone running away from the scene on surveillance video. What’s more, although they did find a transient who matched the description Witt gave of his attacker, they cleared that man as a suspect.
Police also found video from a nearby sporting goods store that showed that Witt had recently purchased a small knife.
When confronted with this information, Witt changed his story and admitted that he had accidentally cut himself with the knife while he was parked in front of the store.
Witt was charged with false reporting to authorities and booked into jail, though he has since been released. If he is convicted, he faces a fine of up to $2,650 and jail time of up to one year.
