Jemele Hill found herself in hot water on Monday when she tweeted out an accusation that President Donald Trump is a white supremacist.
“Donald Trump is a white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists,” Hill, who is the cohost of ESPN’s “Sports Center,” wrote on Twitter, later adding, “Trump is the most ignorant, offensive president of my lifetime. His rise is a direct result of white supremacy. Period.”
The next day, ESPN released a statement saying, “We have addressed this with Jemele and she recognizes her actions were inappropriate.”
Then, on Wednesday, Hill took to Twitter to address the “elephant in the room” and to apologize to ESPN, though not to Trump.
“My comments on Twitter expressed my personal beliefs,” she wrote. “My regret is that my comments and the public way I made them painted ESPN in an unfair light. My respect for the company and my colleagues remains unconditional.”

Although Hill apologized to the network, she has received support for her words and her stance from several others, notably from Colin Kaepernick, who made national headlines when he knelt for the national anthem in protest of the state of race relations in the country.
“We are with you @jemelehill,” he wrote.
