Texas educator resigns after racist rant against NFL protest raises brows

A Texas educator has resigned her job after telling a local woman to “go back to Mexico” over her support of the #TakeAKnee protests.

Amy Davidson was a physical education teaching assistant for Preston Smith Elementary School before her resignation on Tuesday morning. On Monday night, she got into a heated debate on Facebook with another woman, Donica Torres, saying she “had to blow this girl up on Instagram” and was “tired of ignorant people.” Specifically, she was taking issue with the NFL protests in which players and personnel have been taking a knee during the national anthem.

“Don’t come to our country and insult our history,” Davidson wrote. “You don’t belong here if you can’t respect it!”

During the profanity-laced exchange, Davidson also told Torres to “go back to Mexico” and asked if she was “f*****g retarded.”

A Lubbock ISD spokeswoman has since confirmed that Davidson resigned after the Facebook posts blew up.

“Yesterday, Lubbock ISD was made aware of posts on the personal Facebook page of Amy Davidson which were in violation of the district’s employee handbook,” Nancy Sharp said. “Davidson resigned her position this morning, effective immediately. She has been employed by the district less than two years as an educational aide.”
