Time magazine disputes Trump’s claim he was up for ‘Person of the Year’

Time magazine is calling President Trump out over his claim that he said no when they asked him to be their “Person of the Year.”
On Friday, he tweeted that he turned down the magazine after he was told he would “probably” receive the honor. It would have been his second year in a row to grace that issue.
“Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named ‘Man (Person) of the Year,’ like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot,” he posted on Twitter. “I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!”
Time magazine doesn’t seem to know what he was talking about and has taken issue with his claim. Just three hours after the president tweeted they released a statement.
“The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6.”

In December of last year, when he was the president-elect, Trump mocked the magazine at a rally, complaining that he was called “Person of the Year” instead of “Man of the Year.” He claimed it was just another example of political correctness which he is not in favor of.
“You know, look, they have to be politically correct,” he said. “Should we speak to the people at Time Magazine and say we want it again next year, but we want maybe ‘Man of the Year’ next year, OK?”
