A comprehensive effort to remove Kim Kardashian from popular culture has been launched. BoycottKim.com is a new site with the stated goal of boycotting products sold and marketed by the Kim Kardashian and her family. Responding to the saturation of all things Kardashian in American media, the site is powered by a petition and features a list of Kardashian endorsements to boycott.
“Boycott Kim Kardashian and all that she stands for by going after those who hire her and give her incentive to continue to pollute our culture,” the site reads. “We will measure our success as these brands have little choice to [f]ire Kim Kardashian and think twice about hiring someone like her ever again.”
The endorsement includes department stores like Macy’s, projects like Tyler Perry’s The Marriage Counselor and E! Entertainment Television, among 45 Kardashian ventures.
The boycott coincides with recent news that Kardashian ex-husband of 72 days, Kris Humphries was named the “most disliked player” in the NBA by a Forbes.com poll. Kardashian also recently received criticism for a trip she and her mother and manager, Kris Jenner made to Haiti in early December. Rumors circled that Kardashian visited the country, still devastated by a 2010 earthquake, for a fashion show and misrepresented the trip as a humanitarian effort.
The website features a petition with a goal of reaching 500,000 signatures. As of Thursday morning, it was at 77 percent of that goal with 382,695. Boycott Kim Kardashian’s Facebook page has received 3,916 likes and 2,774 comments, mostly negative.
A comment from one man, Orlando Vergara reads, “It’s about time someone brought this out. All mothers and fathers under 35 years of age, pay attention! Watch how your children react to Kim Kardashian and how they revere her as some type of goddess and not what she really is…..Please turn their hearts away from anything KARDASHIAN!”
